MP3 Lions on Saturn - The Dark Night Returns

Rock from that twilight universe just beyond our reach. Scorching guitar, heart-thumping drums and a metaphysical soul

9 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Progressive Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
Lions on Saturn is a Seattle area act with ties to The Beefeaters and Nigel & The Batmen. The music is mainstream rock featuring scorching guitar, heart-thumping drums and a dash of world music. Songs range from hauntingly personal ("Halo", "The Traveler") to existentially sublime ("The Chain") to straight-up driving pop ("No Hesitation", "Nigel & The Batmen"). A pair of short instrumentals ("Sunrise", "After Hours") appear in the tradition of Black Sabbath album "Master of Reality."

What''s in the name? First of all, it doesn''t reflect a misconception that actual lions live on the planet Saturn. For one thing, the gas giant has no solid surface to prowl on. If that weren''t enough, there''s nothing to eat, the atmosphere is laced with deadly toxins, and it''s cold as the girlfriend who dumped you for a hamster-brained Fabio look-alike.

Lions on Saturn is a metaphor. While there are no earth lions on the Saturn in our solar system, there are countless billions of worlds in the universe with no doubt all manner of amazing features and life forms. Somewhere among them is surely some creature remarkably like a lion thriving under magnificent rings streaking the sky from horizon to horizon.

That''s the Lions attitude -- that everywhere around us, just beyond our reach, are truths more astonishing than any science fiction or fantasy we can invent. Lions invites you to stretch as far as you can toward these tantalizing yet elusive realities. The music is as good a place as any to start.

The name of Lions'' debut CD, "The Dark Night Returns", will be recognized by Batman fans as a takeoff on the title of Frank Miller''s graphic novel. But it also refers to that time not so long ago when city lights did not obscure the sheer magnificence of the brilliant nighttime sky. It was under such stars in the small town of Walla Walla, Washington that songwriter Mark Tucker first composed otherwordly music on a 12-string Gibson Hummingbird. A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then, but that sense of wonder has never diminished.
